You have signed up for an email account in one of the top email address providers of today: Gmail. You have made it through the difficult sign-up process, and you finally have your own Gmail address. Now, how do you sign in? How will you look into your email account to read your emails and send emails to your family, friends, co-workers, or that special someone? Here’s how.
Go to Gmail.com
On the address bar of your web browser, type www.gmail.com. The Gmail Sign In Page will show up on your screen.
Enter Your Email
On the email field, type your new Gmail ID. It should look like email@example.com. Then press the Enter key.
Enter Your Password
Your cursor will automatically move to the Password field after you press the Enter key. Type your password into the Password field.
Before you press the Enter key, you can choose to check the box next to “Stay signed in.” Checking this box will keep you signed in to your Gmail account even if you visit another page like Facebook or Wikipedia. Check this box only if you do not share your computer with anyone else. If you do not check this box, Gmail will automatically log you out after 1 hour.
Whether or not you can check the box, press the Enter key.
Just in Case
If you happen to have mistyped your password, pressing the Enter key will only bring you back to the Sign In page. Gmail will inform you with red letters that you have entered the wrong email address or password.
Try entering your email address and password again, making sure that you type both of them correctly this time. Gmail does not allow people who use typos in the Sign In form to sign in. Also, Gmail passwords are case-sensitive. Make sure that you capitalize your password wherever it should be capitalized.
Get into Recovery
If Gmail still won’t let you sign in, this means that you forgot your password. Don’t worry, you can recover your password. When Gmail brings you back to the Sign In page, instead of entering your email address and password again, click the blue “Forgot Password?” below the Password field. The recovery page will appear on your screen. Just fill up the fields that Gmail will ask and follow step-by-step instructions. If, every detail matches the record that you have entered during the sign up, they will ask you to enter new password and once done, you will be able to access your email account in less than few minutes.
When you finally sign in, you will see a loading screen with your email address on it. Wait for it to load, and voila! You will find yourself in your Gmail inbox.
Always remember your email address and password. You can write your email address in your planner, or diary. Writing it down makes it harder to forget. Just never write your password anywhere. You can use software like password managers to ensure you never forget your password. You can also hide it in digital diary software that has their own passwords. Lastly, always access your email account through a secure internet connection. Public WiFi are often loaded with hackers waiting to hack emails.
