As a new email user, one of your contacts may request you to ‘forward’ him or her a particular email. This sort of request would instantly throw you into the deep end of things: as you try to figure out how to go about forwarding the email. An experienced email user will probably not understand what the big deal with forwarding an email is. An experienced email user may not understand why anyone would need to go online, looking for advice on how to forward an email. But for a person who is still familiarizing himself or herself with email usage, the whole idea of ‘forwarding’ an email is a big deal. And to help anyone who happens to be in that situation, we will outline the steps one needs to follow, in order to forward an email message.
Steps to follow when forwarding emails
Accessing the email you wish to forward: in order to forward an email, you will first have to go to your email inbox, and go through the messages in the inbox, to find that particular email message — the one to be forwarded. In the inbox, you will find a list of email message subjects, the times when they got into the inbox, and their respective senders. The messages in the inbox are clickable, and upon clicking on any particular message, you are able to open that particular message in order to read it, and subsequently reply to it, forward it or perform any other operation on it. Thus, after going through the inbox and finding the specific message you wish to forward, click on it, and it will open.
Indicating that you wish to forward the email: with the specific email you wish to forward open, look above or below the message body, and you will a row of icons (or links or buttons) that you are supposed to click on, in order to perform various operations on the email message. Those include the ‘Delete’, ‘Reply’, ‘Reply All’ and ‘Forward’ icons, links or buttons. From those, click on the ‘Forward’ icon, link or button – to indicate that you wish to forward that particular message.
Indicating whom you wish to forward the email to: upon clicking on the ‘Forward’ icon, link or button, several things happen. A space appears in the addresses section of the email message (above the message body) where you are required to enter the email address of the person or people to whom you wish to forward the email. You can add this off-head, or you can click to add the intended recipient(s) of the forwarded message from your email contacts/address book. You can add multiple email addresses (for intended recipients of the forwarded email). With most email applications, this is just a question of keying in the targeted recipients email addresses, separated by commas.
Adding something to the message forwarding it: another thing that happens when you click on the ‘Forward’ icon, link or button is that the message body also becomes editable. This then gives you a chance to add anything you may wish to add to the message, before forwarding it. It is also at this point that you can add an attachment to the message – by clicking on the ‘Attach’ icon, link or button, and then specifying/browsing to select the file you wish to attach.
Sending the message: to dispatch the forwarded message to the intended recipient(s), click on the ‘Send’ button, link or icon – and the message will be forwarded to the person or people you specified.
